ACRN ‘s Inspirational Story at the Gates 25th Anniversary Celebration

Dr. Tariro Makadzange joined global leaders at Carnegie Hall to celebrate the Gates Foundation’s 25th anniversary. She shared ACRN’s bold vision for Africa-led clinical research, inspiring attendees with her story. The event also featured Bill Gates’ announcement to donate nearly all his wealth by 2045 and a renewed focus on global health, education, and agriculture.

We were proud to welcome the Higherlife Foundation team to the Infectious Diseases Research Laboratory (IDRL) in Zimbabwe. The visit underscored our shared mission to advance scientific research and health innovation across Africa, with a focus on diagnostics, clinical research, and improving public health outcomes.

CEO Dr Tariro Makadzange took part in the International Accrediting Organisation for Clinical Research (IAOCR) Leaders’ Think Tank in London, United Kingdom. The event was an excellent opportunity for ACRN to engage with global leaders across clinical research sites, CROS, and sponsors.

Enhancing clinical trial capabilities with strong biosafety and biosecurity standards is crucial for Africa’s pandemic prevention and response (Ndembi et al, 2024). These measures will improve our capacity to handle high-consequence agents and toxins (HCATS). For ACRN, prioritising biosafety and biosecurity is vital for developing a sustainable clinical trial ecosystem in Africa, safeguarding research integrity and community well-being. Our Chief of Staff, Romina Mariano, represented ACRN at the WHO Global Clinical Trials Forum in Geneva. Engaging with global leaders highlighted the need for African voices in discussions focused on real-world implementation and community-led research. Read more here

WHO Global Clinical Trials Forum in Geneva

We welcomed Professors Steve Deeks and Rachel Rutishauser to ACRN this morning. Our discussions focused on deepening the understanding of HIV biology and advancing cure research in Africa. We look forward to our future collaborations and the work ahead!
